What are your favourite European Christmas Markets? Besides the ones in Prague (post with the list of Christmas Markets here), I enjoy very much visiting the Striezelmarkt in Dresden. I really like the city Dresden itself and I can visit it any time of the year. But the time before Christmas is the most beautiful over there! Yes, it is crowded (but that is most of the other towns before Christmas and I know I just have to deal with it) but those decorations and atmosphere get me every single time! Unfortunately, I am not sure if we manage to visit Dresden’s markets this year (we are mixing things up a bit and visiting the markets in Nuremberg instead – that will be my first time over there in Christmas period, can’t wait!), but anything can happen, especially when Dresden is just 2 hours drive from Prague, we will see 🙂

Jaké jsou Vaše oblíbené evropské vánoční trhy? Já mám samozřejmě ráda ty naše v Praze, ale skoro každý rok jezdím také do Drážďan. Mám ráda město samotné a můžu tam jezdit v jakémkoliv ročním období. Ale v předvánoční čas je tohle město pro mě nejkrásnější! Ano, je tam plno (ale to je ve většině měst před Vánoci a vím, že se s tím musím prostě smířit), ale ty dekorace a atmosféra mě pokaždé dostanou. Bohužel nevím, jestli se tam letos dostaneme (tento rok máme trošku změnu a jedeme na trhy do Norimberku, bude to poprvé, co tohle město uvidím přes advent, tak se už moc těším!). Ale všechno je možné, Drážďany jsou z Prahy pouhé dvě hodiny autem, tak uvidíme 🙂

Christmas Market in Dresden

Did you know the Christmas Markets in Dresden belongs to the oldest Christmas market in the world? It was first held in 1434! The main markets at Altmarkt square are open this season from 29th November to 24th December 2017 (and the stalls from 10:00 to 21:00). If you are coming by car, note that due to the high amount of visitors is nearly impossible to find a parking place outside. You can use parking of shopping centre Altmarkt-Galerie (open from Monday to Saturday), the cost is 1 Eur per 1 hour of parking. 

Věděli jste, že vánoční trhy v Drážďanech patří mezi nejstarší na světě? Poprvé se konali již v roce 1434! Hlavní trhy na náměstí Altmarkt jsou letos otevřeny od 29. listopadu do 24. prosince (stánky od 10 do 21). Jestli přijíždíte do Drážďan autem, tak berte na vědomí, že díky velkému počtu návštěvníků je téměř nemožné najít parkovací místo venku. Můžete využit parkoviště obchodního domu Altmarkt-Galerie (otevřeno od pondělí do soboty) za euro na hodinu. 

If you are too cold that even the Glühwein (mulled wine) doesn’t warm you anymore, I can recommend you few of my favourite cafes and restaurants near the markets. I really like Café Kunst filled with beautiful antique decorations and furniture. For typical German cuisine, you can stop at Bierhaus Dampfschiff,  even though it belongs under the Hilton Hotel, it is pretty affordable and food really tasty. And the last tip for awesome food –  Alpenrestaurant – bonus is that this place is so cosy! 

Pokud se náhodou stane, že vám bude taková zima, že už ani svařák nepomůže, můžu vám doporučit pár míst blízko trhů, kam se jít ohřát. Líbí se mi v Café Kunst, podnik je plný starožitného nábytku a dekorací. Typickou německou kuchyni můžete ochutnat například v Bierhaus Dampfschiff. I přesto, že tato restaurace patří pod hotel Hilton, tak ceny jsou přívětivé (a jídlo vynikající). Poslední tip na dobré jídlo – restaurace Aplenrestaurant – bonusem je příjemný útulný interiér!
