Charles Bridge certainly belongs among the most visited places in Prague. Walking directly across the bridge is not always very pleasant because you are surrounded by crowds of people. That’s why it’s best to go through it early in the morning or at night. If you are not really the early bird, I’ll give you one quick tip today on how to enjoy the bridge without going through the crowds. Take the tram to Staroměstská station, head out to the river and continue along the sidewalk at the riverfront. You can admire beautiful views of Prague Castle, Lesser Town and Charles Bridge (you can find my other favourite Prague views here 🙂 ).

Karlův most patří jistě mezi nejnavštěvovanější místa v Praze. Procházka přímo přes most nemusí moc příjemná, protože jste obklopeni davy lidí. Proto je nejlepší si ho projít brzy ráno nebo v noci. Pokud se Vám nechce vstávat, tak Vám dám dnes jeden rychlý tip, jak si most užít, aniž byste ho museli přecházet v davu. Dojeďte tramvají do stanice Staroměstská, vydejte se směrem k řece a pokračujte po chodníku u nábřeží. Můžete odtud obdivovat krásný výhled na Pražský Hrad, Malou Stranu a Karlův most (mé další oblíbené pražské výhledy můžete najít zde 🙂 ). 

The Old Town Bridge Tower

Then head to the Old Town Bridge Tower, one of the most beautiful Gothic buildings in the world. On the left you will find the entrance, start to go up the stairs to buy a ticket which costs 100 CZK (approx. 4 Eur), there are 138 steps to climb:) But there is a great reward waiting for you – awesome view of Prague! I was surprised that there were only two other tourists besides our little group of three, so we had views almost just for ourselves!

Poté přejděte ke Staroměstské mostecké věži, která patří k nejkrásnějším gotickým stavbám na světě. Po levé straně najdete vchod, vydejte se směrem nahoru ke kase, lístek stojí 100 Kč a pokračujte nahoru, celkem na Vás čeká 138 schodů 🙂 Nahoře na Vás čeká úžasný výhled na všechny strany Prahy! Překvapilo mě, že mimo naší malé skupiny byly nahoře pouze dva další turisté, měli jsme tedy výhledy téměř pouze pro sebe! 

Interesting facts about Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge is the oldest bridge in Prague and connects the Old Town with Lesser Town. It is over 500 meters long and 9 and a half meters wide. The bridge was built for 45 years and the foundation stone was laid by Emperor Charles IV. in 1357. Originally it was called the Stone Bridge or Prague Bridge. The Charles Bridge was inspired by the stone bridge in the German town of Regensburg. Charles Bridge is decorated with 30 Baroque sculptures (these are replicas, the original sculptures are in Lapidarium at the Exhibition ground in Holešovice).

Karlův most je nejstarší most v Praze a spojuje Staré Město s Malou Stranou. Je dlouhý přes 500 metrů a a 9 a půl metru široký. Most se stavěl 45 let a základní kámen položil císař Karel IV. v roce 1357. Původně se mu říkalo kamenný nebo pražský most. “Předlohou” pro Karlův most byl kamenný most v německém městě Regensburg. Karlův most zdobí 30 barokních soch (jedná se o repliky, originální sochy jsou v Lapidáriu na výstavišti v Holešovicích). 

Tip for restaurant in the area

It would not be me if I did not have a tip for a nice restaurant in the neighbourhood 🙂 About 3 minutes walk from Charles Bridge is Atmosphere Cafe Pub (address Smetanovo nábř. 327/14) which has cool seating in the courtyard. Despite the central location, the restaurant has budget-friendly prices and excellent meals. We like to take our foreign visits there as they have a great selection of healthy, vegetarian or meat dishes.

To bych nebyla já, abych neměla tip na fajn restauraci v okolí 🙂 Asi 3 minuty chůze od Karlova mostu se nachází Atmosféra Cafe Pub (adresa – Smetanovo nábř. 327/14), která ma skvělou zahrádku ve vnitrobloku. I přes centrální polohu má restaurace hodně příjemný ceny a výborně tu vaří. Rádi sem bereme naše zahraniční návštěvy, mají opravdu velký výběr jídel od zdravých, vegetariánských či masových. 

On the other side of the bridge, there is another tower from where is a beautiful view, but I have not been there yet.
