In my last article I mentioned we spent our last year summer holidays in northern Spain, where we rented a car for three days. Today I would like to share with you my tips what to visit around Bilbao. We planned our trips as follows:

Day 1 – east coast (from Bilbao to San Sebastian)

Day 2 – west coast (from Biblao to Santander)

Day 3 – inland (Rioja)

V minulém článku jsem zmiňovala, že jsme loňskou dovolenou strávili v severním Španělsku, kde jsme měli na tři dny pronajaté auto. V dnešním postu bych se s Vámi chtěla podělit o tipy, co navštívit v okolí Bilbaa. Výlety jsme měli rozplánované následovně:

1.den – pobřeží východně od Bilbaa  (San Sebastian)

2.den – pobřeží západně od Bilbaa (Santander)

3.den – vnitrozemí (region Rioja)

In this post, I will cover the first day, when we visited the most. Our first stop was charming coastal town San Sebastián. This town lives mainly from tourism, various festivals are held here and are often visited. There is famous city beach called La Concha which is lined by promenade filled by restaurants and souvenir shops. We were not so lucky with the weather, but I liked the city anyway. I can imagine spending there few days of holidays.

Dnes se budu věnovat prvnímu dnu, kdy jsme toho navštívili nejvíce. První zastávkou bylo krásné pobřežní městečko San Sebastián. Město žije hlavně z turismu, konají se tu různé festivaly a je hojně navštěvované. Je zde známá městská pláž La Concha, kterou lemuje promenáda plná různých restaurací a obchůdků se suvenýry. Bohužel jsme neměli moc štěstí na počasí, ale i tak se mi městečko moc líbilo a umím si představit tam strávit pár dnů dovolené.

About 40 minutes’ drive from San Sebastián is the small town called Zumaia, which is attractive mainly by a beautiful beach with some kind of stone phenomena. I’ve never seen anything like this! Above the beach is a small bar, I recommend you to stop here for a while, have a cup of coffee and enjoy the view of this unusual beach.

Asi 40 minut autem od San Sebastián se nachází malé město Zumaia, které zaujme především krásnou pláží se zvláštními kamennými úkazy. Nikdy jsem nic takového neviděla! Nad pláží je menší bar, doporučuji se zde na chvíli zastavit, dát si kávu a užívat si výhledu na tuhle nezvyklou pláž.

During our trips we were choosing mainly roads right by the coast, the views were incredible!

Při našich výletech jsme volili převážně silnice přímo u pobřeží, ty výhledy byly neskutečné!

Next, we stopped at Playa de Laga, where we finally have got better weather. I did not find much about this beach, I discovered it via Google Maps and I liked the added images. For the moment we sat down on the beach, ate sandwiches from home and enjoyed the sunshine and the sound of the sea.

Dále jsme se zastavili u Playa De Laga, kde se nám konečně vyčasilo. O téhle pláži jsem toho moc nenašla, objevila jsem ji přes Google Maps a z přidaných fotek se mi moc líbila. Na chvíli jsme si tu sedli, snědli sendviče z domova a užívali si slunka a šumění moře.

The penultimate stop of the first day was the Santa Katalina Baseliza in the small town called Mundaka. The city is known worldwide especially among surfers, apparently, there are some of the biggest waves in the world.

Předposlední zastávkou prvního dne byla Santa Katalina Baseliza v malém městě Mundaka. Město je celosvětově známé především mezi surfaři, prý jsou zde jedny z největších vln na světě.

The best for the end! Island Gaztelugatxe I liked from all these wonderful places the most. This place is located 30 km from Bilbao and buses run here as well. A man has to walk a bit (the last picture is taken from the parking lot, then the path is closed for cars). The walk to the island took us about 30 minutes and the way up to the church on 241 steps perhaps even longer (if you like taking pictures you understand 🙂 ) I suggest you come here about three hours prior sunset, you will not regret it! As a fan of Game of Thrones, I was pleased by the news that there were filmed some scenes from the new 7th season. I can not wait! (they filmed also on the previously mentioned Zumaia beach)

To nejlepší nakonec! Ostrov Gaztelugatxe se mi líbil ze všech zmíněných nádherných míst nejvíce. Tohle místo se nachází 30 km od Bilbaa a jezdí sem i autobusy. Člověk se trošku projde (pro představu – poslední fotka je pořízena z parkoviště, dále je cesta pro auta uzavřena). Cesta k ostrovu nám trvala asi 30 minut a samotný výstup nahoru ke kostelíku po 241 schodech snad ještě déle (pokud rádi fotíte, tak chápete 🙂 ) Vydejte se sem tak 3 hodiny před západem slunce, nebudete litovat! Jako fanouška Game of Thrones mě potěšila zpráva, že se zde natáčely nějaké scény z nové 7.série. Už se nemůžu dočkat! (natáčelo se i na dříve zmíněné Zumaia beach)

Now I find it incredible that we have visited so many different and wonderful places in one day! How do you like the north of Spain? Would you come here for holidays?
